Regret Minimization Theory in Practice

Regret Minimization Theory of Jeff Bezos – In Practice

Regret Minimization Theory of Jeff Bezos
I don’t want to fade way or slip silently into the twilight.
We write or soon people forget. I believe life gives us credit for foolish or ill-timed decisions, because they advance our calling in some way. We call it experience and it worms it’s way into our plots and stories. And boy… we’ve got a lot to say!

A seemingly small and incremental decision such as taking part of NaBloPoMo can open up the right portal. This is my gentle tap on the door. Knock…Knock…

“Most people regret what they did not do, rather than actions they did take.” Jeff Bezos

In an interview for his induction into the Academy of Achievement, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, explained his theory of regret minimization: “Okay, now I’m looking back on my life. I want to have minimized the number of regrets I have. I knew that when I was eighty, I was not going to regret having tried this. I was not going to regret trying to participate in this thing called the Internet that I thought was going to be a really big deal”

In the spirit of the Regret Minimization Theory or Framework, we are not ones to languish on path of regrets, resentment and bitterness. A blog post a day for a month, is our way of really living and putting a piece of ourselves out there.

Moreover, since our bestsellers will one day be listed on his website, I found a few of his quotes to embellish and I hope these encourages you, in the words of NaBloPoMo, to “type your heart out” :

  • “I’m going to do this crazy thing. I’m going to start this company selling books online.” ( writing stories)
  • “I realized I’m never going to be a great physicist.”
(You and me….Bezos! I realized that and picked up Advanced Literature in my last year of High School)
  • “No communication is terrible”
  • “We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job everyday to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better.” (readers)
  • “Work hard, have fun and make history.”

Short Bio of Jeff Bezos: He is well-known for his sharp-witted leadership style. He was named Time magazine’s person of the year in 1999. In 2012, Bezos was named Businessperson of The Year by Fortune.
According to Wikipedia, Jeff Bezos is a technology entrepreneur who has played a key role in the growth of e-commerce as the founder and CEO of Amazon.com, an online merchant of books and later of a variety of products. Under his leadership, Amazon.com became the largest retailer online and a top model for Internet sales. In 2013, Bezos purchased The Washington Post newspaper.

There’s nothing as powerful as Synergy…in this case a band of writers together heading in the right direction and with each post, working to shape the conversation about what is possible. No regrets.
